About the Role

The Vice President of Operations serves as a key member of the executive leadership team and is responsible for overseeing operational performance across multiple markets and business units. This position provides strategic direction for transportation operations, workforce management, service delivery, fleet utilization, safety initiatives, and continuous process improvement.

The successful candidate will possess a strong combination of business acumen, operational expertise, and leadership capability while maintaining a hands-on approach to problem-solving and organizational development.

Primary Responsibilities of a Vice President of Operations:

Organizational Leadership

• Establish and execute operational strategies that support company objectives and long-term growth
• Lead cross-functional teams to improve operational performance and business outcomes

Operations Management

• Oversee daily transportation operations across multiple locations and service areas

Business Performance & Profitability

• Manage operational budgets and financial performance targets
• Monitor key business metrics including revenue, labor costs, fleet utilization, and profitability
• Identify opportunities to increase operational efficiency while controlling costs
• Collaborate with executive leadership on forecasting, budgeting, and strategic planning
• Drive initiatives that improve financial performance and operational effectiveness

Leadership Development

• Recruit, coach, and mentor regional and local operations leaders
• Develop succession plans and leadership pipelines
• Establish accountability standards and performance expectations
• Support talent development, employee engagement, and retention strategies

Customer & Service Excellence

• Champion a customer-first culture throughout the organization
• Implement strategies that improve service metrics and client satisfaction

• Ensure transportation services are delivered safely, reliably, and professionally

Fleet, Safety & Compliance

• Maintain oversight of fleet performance, maintenance operations, and asset utilization
• Ensure compliance with all company policies, industry regulations, and safety standards
• Lead safety initiatives that reduce risk and improve operational performance
• Partner with internal teams to strengthen compliance and accountability programs
• Monitor operational readiness and maintain established standards across all markets

Strategic Growth & Innovation

• Evaluate emerging technologies, industry trends, and operational best practices
• Lead organizational change initiatives and business transformation projects
• Utilize data and analytics to support executive decision-making
• Identify opportunities for operational expansion and market growth
• Present strategic recommendations and operational performance updates to executive leadership

Qualifications of a Vice President of Operations:

Required Experience

• 10+ years of progressive operations leadership experience
• 5+ years serving in a senior executive or multi-location leadership role
• Demonstrated success leading large-scale operations and diverse teams
• Experience managing transportation, logistics, hospitality, fleet, service, or mobility operations
• Strong background in financial management, budgeting, and performance optimization
• Proven ability to drive organizational growth and operational improvement
• Exceptional communication, leadership, and decision-making skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Operations Management, Logistics, Transportation, or a related field
• MBA or advanced degree preferred
• Experience overseeing multi-state or multi-market operations
• Background in transportation, mobility, passenger services, logistics, or fleet-based businesses
• Knowledge of safety compliance programs, workforce management, and operational reporting systems
